The 2013 Jazz Festival runs March 3-10. Evening Concerts will be held at The Players Theatre, 838 N. Tamiami Trail, Sarasota. Concerts start at 7:30 p.m.
Sunday, March 3 Festival Kickoff
"Jazz in the Park" - Phillippi Estate Park. Free concert! 1-4 p.m. Enjoy an afternoon of great jazz in an inspired setting. Headlining this year's free outdoor concert is the Manatee High School Jazz Ensemble and the Kenny Loomer Jazz Quintet with Loomer on drums, Tony Castellano Jr. on keyboards, Tom Parmerter on trumpet, Austin Vickrey on tenor sax, and Bruce Wallace on bass. Bring a blanket or chair; no coolers, please!
Tuesday, March 5 - JB Scott's Swingin' Allstars
The Chicago swing/New Orleans style jazz group makes a return to the festival after their spirited performance last year. Led by trumpeter, JB Scott, former musical director of the world famous Dukes of Dixieland, the group also features award winning vocalist Lisa Kelly, banjo/guitarist Ken Calhoun. Rounding out the all star cast are trombonist Dave Steinmeyer, Jim Snyder, also a former Duke, on clarinet, Rick Ravelo on bass and drummer Eric Mason.

Wednesday, March 6 - Jazz Caravan by Trolley Enjoy jazz club favorites at various venues around town including Caragiulos with Mike Markaverich & Ernie Williford, Floribbean with Metro Connection, Gator Club with Katt Hefner Allstar Group, Hotel Indigo with Melanie Massell Jazz Duo, Hyatt Boat House with The David Pruyn Group, Marina Jack with the Venturas, Salute's with the Al Hixon Group, Salvatore with Diane Linscott Trio and the Senior Friendship Center with Betty Comora Trio. Food and beverages will be available for purchase at the various places. Trolleys will depart from the Players Theatre parking lot starting at 6:20 pm. Hop on & off at trolleys stops around town.Tickets: $15 from Jazz Club; $20 on trolley night. Call 941-366-1552 for tickets.
Thursday, March 7 - Giacomo Gates with Mac Chrupcala, Patricia Dean, and John Lamb.
A favorite in the northeast jazz clubs, Giacomo Gates, is developing a national reputation. An extraordinary jazz stylist and Downbeat Critics Poll nominee, he joins jazz club favorites Mac Chrupcala on piano, Patricia Dean, on drums and the incomparable John Lamb on bass. The Jazz Club’s prestigious “Satchmo” award will be made to John Lamb for his enduring contributions as an educator and performer in the jazz world.

Friday, March 8 - Terry Myers17 piece Big Band; Benny Goodman Tribute.
Enjoy all your Benny Goodman favorites in this earnest salute to the King of Swing. Terry Myers, on clarinet and tenor sax and his splendid Florida based orchestra frame impressive likenesses of songs that helped make Benny Goodman a household name when big bands ruled the musical world. Tickets: Members $35. Guests $40. Students $10.

The Fabulous Four Freshmen
The closing night of the festival features the Four Freshmen who continue to bring their unique brand of vocal harmony to audiences worldwide. The multiple Grammy-nominated vocal band quartet blends open-harmonic jazz arrangements with the big band vocal group sounds. Their repertoire includes a variety of pop and jazz standards from the Great American Songbook. Tickets: Premium seating $45.
